Package formats

  • AppImage: useful when you do not want to install through the system package manager. It often requires execute permission.
  • Deb: commonly used on Debian, Ubuntu, and derivatives.
  • RPM: commonly used on Fedora, RHEL, openSUSE, and related distributions.

Download source

Open GitHub Releases and review Linux-related assets. If the current release does not include the format you need, avoid unknown repackaged files and check Issues or future releases instead.

AppImage permissions

AppImage files typically need execute permission before launch. Desktop integration, sandbox behavior, and tray icon support can vary across distributions, so production guides should be tested on the target distribution.

Troubleshooting

  • App does not start: check execute permission, missing libraries, and desktop environment.
  • System proxy not working: review desktop proxy settings and browser-specific proxy settings.
  • Tray icon issue: Linux desktop environments do not all support tray protocols the same way.
